Kaiser Elementary Instructional Tech Workshop

Howdy out there! My colleague and I did a training at Kaiser Elementary today and it was very interesting. First of all, the staff was a delight! I presented a showcase of ideas of implementing tech tools into the everyday teaching practice. The PowerPoint I used evoked some great discussions. I look forward to working with them this school year.

Last week we hosted Tech Camp '08 here at the TLC. We had a great turnout, met a lot of cool teachers, new and returning. What's great about working here in Oakland is the people. We have so much talent and energy. I look forward to a year where we can highlight successes all around Oakland. I want to document successes at all the school sites. So please let me know what is happening at your school, so we can let the community at large know. All we hear about on the news and in the paper is bad: murder, robberies, etc. Let us know what you are doing!

AASL Conference in Reno, NV

I'm on my fourth session today at the AASL. It is really exciting to learn about the WEb 2.0. There is such opportunity to publish and express online. It is a bit depressing because I think of our situation back home and we are so behind, terribly. I am listening to folks in the technology field from around the country and how districts are committed to staffing all schools with certified professional Library Media Specialists. But not in Oakland. People are astonished to learn that our Librarians are contracted or paid for by the PTA. When is our district going to wake up?
